We Olive Ventura, located on Main street downtown, is one of eleven We Olive stores that specializes in California Certified Extra Virgin Olive Oil, artisan produced food products and tasteful gifts. Recently aquired by Pam and Alan Davis, who also own WeOlive and Wine Bar in Thousand Oaks, this store has been a staple in Downtown Ventura area since November 2008 Q. How did you come to join the We Olive family and what is your favorite thing about the job?
A. We enjoyed both the products and the overall experience at the We Olive stores we had visited, so much so that we decided to open a new one near our home. After decades of working at jobs vs. something we were passionate about, we decided to take the leap and start this new venture.
There are two things that we really enjoy about our We Olive store. One is being able to introduce and educate people about the wonderful California olive oils. The other is getting to meet people from a great diversity of backgrounds and cultures.
Q. How would you describe your relationship with your guests?
A. We strive to be honest and caring with all of our guests. Those that come in regularly seem to enjoy that we will try to meet their needs however we can, and try to maintain a personal commitment.
Q. What are your bestsellers and personal favorites?
A. We Olive Garlic Olive Oil and Aged Balsamic are by far the best selling products. Our guests can’t seem to get enough! We also have a lot of gift shoppers so our home goods such as platters and wall art have also been very popular in the store.
Personally, we love the We Olive Mission Extra Virgin Olive Oil and the Blackberry Balsamic Vinegar, as well as the Parmesan-Asiago Dip and the Wasabi Sake Mustard…any of the mustards really!
Q. What is your favorite recipe or tip to share? Have you received any ideas from your guests in return?
A. We tell all of our guests to try making a vinaigrette with Blackberry Balsamic Vinegar and either Basil or Lemon Olive Oil, and then Pineapple White Balsamic Vinegar with Jalapeno Olive Oil. We also love suggesting Peach White Balsamic Vinegar to flavor sparkling water or plain yogurt!
We have had some wonderful tips from our guests including using Lemon Olive Oil in recipes for cookies or cakes, and using Smoked Olive Oil with Pineapple White Balsamic Vinegar as a sauce for pulled pork.
Q. What makes We Olive Ventura unique?
A. We Olive Ventura has been part of the community for several years now and has a very unique following. Several familiar faces come in to get their refills and sample our latest products. Ventura residence also get to enjoy the close proximity of the Ventura Mission. WeOlive provides bottles to the mission and people come in to fill the bottles and back to the Mission to have the oil blessed by the Priest.
