Beware of Misleading Labeling
When it comes to extra virgin olive oil, there is no such thing as a “diet” or “light” version. If you see a label with one of these claims, don’t purchase it! A product claiming to be a “light” or “Diet” Extra Virgin Olive Oil will not be lower in calories, but most certainly will be light on flavor. This is a marketing ploy – this is typically an inferior oil that has been chemically treated to adjust its color and acidity, minimize strong smells, and adjust taste to a bland flavor. This means it is no longer an Extra Virgin Olive Oil and you’ll be paying more money for an inferior product.
